Haining Farm is located in the Don Valley at the confluence of the Yarra River and the Don River. Haining Farm is a 59 hectare site within the Yellingbo Conservation Area and is currently managed by Parks Victoria.
The Haining Farm Working Group was established in February 2017 to help guide the redevelopment planning for Haining Farm including coordinating the bushfire planning process, identifying the key themes to be considered for planning future use, and developing concept designs.
The initial Concept Plan Working Group included seven Don Valley community members, and representatives from, Parks Victoria, DELWP, Yarra Ranges Council, CFA, Yellingbo Conservation Area Coordinating Committee, and Yarra Waterways Group. The Working Group was supported by independent technical experts, who provided information about a range of factors, including bushfire risk, that may impact the site and influence what the site can be used for. Based on this process the opportunities for the site included conservation, farming and agriculture, education and recreation.
The redevelopment process has reached the second phase of planning with a newly constituted Working Group. Over the next few months Parks Victoria, Zoos Victoria and Greening Australia will meet with locals and the broader Victorian community to explain more about the project and to seek input into refining the final design of the precinct plan. This will include discussions on playground design, tree species in the open woodland and uses for the trail network e.g. dog walking, cycling and running (see Haining Farm Working Group newsletter).
